As MuchMusic continues their search for their newest video jockey, former recreation and leisure student Marlon Palmer placed in the top four on Nov. 23 along with his best friend and future Humber student Laith Hakeem.
Both Hakeem and Palmer were selected among thousands of VJ hopefuls on Oct. 13 and now are one step closer to making their childhood dreams come true.
With just under 5000 fans on Facebook, Palmer said he is happy to have made the final four.
“It feels good,” he said. “I definitely didn’t expect all the support because I don’t even know that many people, so to have so many people supporting me is amazing. It’s definitely motivating.”
Receiving a great amount of support thus far, Hakeem said it’s difficult for him to describe his feelings.
“I’m shocked, excited, exhilarated,” he said. “ I have so many emotions I cannot express how I feel with words, but it is an amazing feeling to know I am that much closer to becoming a VJ.”
Hakeem and Palmer have been split up into pairs with fellow contestants Allie Walker and Liz Trinnear, to create ‘MuchNews Minute’ segments that will air on MuchOnDemand Nov. 27.
Hakeem said he was not surprised when the two teams were announced.
“Marlon and I as a team would definitely put the spotlight on us,” said Hakeem. “We would do crazy wild things. We would have definitely blown the place up”
With a 25 per cent chance, the winner will be chosen on Dec. 4. and Palmer said the two will remain friends regardless.
“ A lot of people think we’re probably going to hate each other at the end of this,” he said “but it’s just another adventure for us. It’s just another story for us to tell.”
